1. General Visa Information

  • British passport holders do not require a visa for the entry purpose of a short term visit (e.g. Tourism, Visiting friends or relatives, Attending business meetings) up to 90 days.
  • Citizens of Japan, Thailand, the Philippines (for stay in Korea under 59 days), the United Kingdom (for a stay in Korea of under 6 months), Sweden, Spain, and Italy do not need to pay a visa-processing fee.
  • If you plan to stay in Korea for more than 90 days, you must obtain a proper long-term visa.
  • A U.S. citizen does not require a visa for a stay up to 30 days as a tourist, provided that he/she has proof of transportation out of the country and sufficient funds for the stay.
  • Please Note: When filling out the visa application form, please type or print neatly. (For a much better printout: (pdf) )
  • If you are requesting a visa by mail, be sure to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope marked with the correct postage to receive your visa(s).
  • With regard to work visas, you are required to obtain a certificate number of Certificate for Confirmation of Visa Issuance, except for type C-4 visas.
    - If there is a subsidiary company established in Korea, the president of the company- as long as he/she has the necessary documents-can apply for your work permit at the Immigration Office and obtain the certificate number of the Certificate for Confirmation of Visa Issuance.

2. Required Documents for Visa Application

   Regardless of your visa status, these items must be submitted to obtain a visa:

      ( Payable to : the Korean Embassy only either by cash or by postal order. Cheques are not accepted. )

  •  Visa processing requires 5 working days.
  •  Your visa is not valid unless you enter Korea within three months of the date of issue.
  • Please provide a self-addressed stamped special delivery envelope with your application if you would like your passport returned by post.

Temporary News
Coverage
(C-1)

- Temporary duty order or statement of employment issued by the company employing the applicant or certificate of foreign news reporter.

Short-Term Business
(C-2)

- Invitation letter from Korea

- Company letter on company headed paper indicating your position, length of employment, purpose of visit and duration in Korea

*  If you are not a UK national, your UK visa must be valid for more than a year. If your current UK visa is valid for less than a year, a notarised reference document from Korea is required to apply for the visa.

Short-Term Visitors
(C-3)

- School Letter/Company Letter of company

- Recent bank statement for the last 3 months showing a sum of ¡Ì1,500 and its photocopy

- Return flight ticket and its photocopy

Short-Term Employment
(C-4)

- Employment contract

- Letter of employment recommendation issued by the head of the relevant central government agency (an entertainer needs a letter of performance recommendation issued by the Image Stuff Classification Committee), an official letter from the relevant government agency or documents proving the necessity of employment.

* Visa Fee : ¡Ì15

The fee is waived for British passport holders. / U.S.A. Passport Holder : ¡Ì 22.5

Culture/Art
(D-1)

- Letter of Invitation

- Documents proving the fact that it is culture and art organization

- Curriculum vitae or certificate of career

* If you are not a UK national, your UK resident visa must be valid for more than a year. If your current UK visa is valid for less than a year, a notarised reference document from Korea is required to apply for the visa.

* If you leave Korea with the intention of returning before the expiration of your period of stay, you are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Immigration Office in Korea before leaving.

Students
(D-2)

- Certificate of school enrollment or school attendance

- Certificate of the current or last school attended

- Financial Affidavit or a letter of notarized personal reference is required in case the applicant cannot prove his or her capability to pay necessary expenses.

* Visa fee : ¡Ì40

* If you are not a UK national, your UK resident visa must be valid for more than a year. If your current UK visa is valid for less than a year, a notarised reference document from Korea is required to apply for the visa.

* If you leave Korea with the intention of returning before the expiration of your period of stay, you are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Immigration Office in Korea before leaving.

Industrial Trainees
(D-3)

- Number of Certificate for confirmation of visa issuance issued by the Ministry of Justice in Korea

* Visa fee : ¡Ì25

* If you are not a UK national, your UK resident visa must be valid for more than a year. If your current UK visa is valid for less than a year, a notarised reference document from Korea is required to apply for the visa.

Student / General Trainees
(D-4)

- Certificate of school enrollment or school attendance

- Certificate of the current or last school attended

- Financial Affidavit (certificate of property tax or saving account balance continuous deposit (more than six months) of the applicant's parents or Koreans and certificate of remittance or money exchange(more than $10,000)

- Letter of notarized personal reference is required in case the applicant cannot prove his or her capability to pay expenses necessary to stay, including school fees etc., or if Minister of Justice deems it necessary.

4. Transit Traveler

  • Approval Target

Among the citizens of countries that do not approve entering without holding its visa, except Cuba and Macedonia:

  • Individuals who hold re-entering approval from U.S., Japan, Canada, or Australia and pass Korea to go to the U.S., Japan, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand

    - Individuals who stayed in the U.S., Japan, Australia, or New Zealand and their flights land directly in Korea, and are going to their own countries or the other countries passing Korea

Approval Condition

Among the citizens of countries that do not approve entering without holding its visa, except Cuba and Macedonia:

  • Have a reserved airplane ticket going out of the country within 30 days
  • Have no experience in any illegal residence in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
